"Ernie" Smith recently retired after completing forty-five dedicated years of service in three different careers with the C. Brewer Company, Ltd.; and WHEREAS, in 1938, Ernie Smith started as a field foreman of Onomea Sugar Company (now part of Mauna Kea Sugar), left for six years (1940-1946) for duty in the U. S. Infantry with General George Patton's Third Army, returned to Onomea Sugar as an agriculturist, and in the ensuing years was assigned as the Field Superintendent at Kilauea Sugar and. Hawaiian Agricultural Company, and eventually served as the manager of both companies; and WHEREAS, his second career was in real estate development where he was named manager and vice president of Brewer Support Housing, Inc., with the much-needed Kulaimano employee housing project being its most notable endeavor; and WHEREAS, these efforts, in addition to his third career as director of the C. Brewer Purchasing Department, highlights a remarkable career noteworthy of commendation and recognition. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it congratulates Ernie Smith for his long and respected service to the sugar industry and wishes him and his family many years of happy retirement. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to Mr. Ernest A. "Ernie" Smith, and J. W. A. Buyers, Chairman and President of C.
