Resolution
WHEREAS, on June 11, Kamehameha Day, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel
will present a special feast to commemorate the birth of King
Kamehameha and honor his birth site at the Mookini Heiau; and
WHEREAS, the Mookini Heiau, considered one of the largest on the
Island of Hawaii, is located at Upolo Point in North Kohala, and was
the first Hawaii site on the National Historic Sites Registry; and
WHEREAS, in sponsoring this special aha'aina, the Mauna Kea
Beach Hotel will be assisting in raising funds to help develop an
on-site docent program, of the Mookini Heiau, and encourage broader
community support and interest in protecting the rich island
heritage for future generations; and
WHEREAS, the special feast will be held on the Mauna Kea Beach
Hotel North Pointe luau grounds, with the Hawaiian music and dance
being contributed by the hotel employees, and $10.00 out of the
$35.00 cost.for attending, will be set aside for
Mookini-Luakini, Inc.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it express its support by encouraging the people of the
Big Island to attend this worthwhile and meaningful feast on
Kamehameha Day at the t9auna Kea Beach Hotel, and help to lay a
foundation in the restoration and preservation of the Mookini Heiau
at North Kohala.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to Adi Kohler,
General Manager and Richard Helfer, Manager, Mauna Kea Beach Hotel.
