HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 639 Draft 01 1980-1984/, > County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the Farmers Home Administration (FmHA) has announced its decision to relocate its office from Hilo to Honolulu, in compliance with the General Services Administration (GSA) policy of using federal property whenever possible; and WHEREAS, there is adequate unused space at the Hilo Federal Building for the Hawaii State Office to use; and WHEREAS, the expenditure of $150,000 to renovate the Hilo Federal Building for its use is nearly one-half the estimated $274,000 to move in toto to Honolulu and affects 17 full-time residents; and WHEREAS, the State Office was established here in Hilo in 1978 because this County was, and remains today, as, the largest agricultural community in our State; and WHEREAS, approximately 42 percent of the State's total FmHA clientele reside here on the island, and thus, further supports the necessity .that the FmHA office continue to operate in Hilo. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it humbly requests the Farmers Home Administration to reverse its decision to relocate its Hawaii State Office from Hilo to Honolulu. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii send copies of this Resolution to the Hawaii Congressional Delegation, Secretary of Agriculture John Block, FmHA National Administrator Charles Shuman, and FmHA Hawaii State Director Robert Choy.
