Resolution
WHEREAS, the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers has completed its
final EIS for the Alenaio Stream Flood Control Project; and
WHEREAS, there is a favorable recommendation for flood control
improvements in Hilo to protect against flooding in the Alenaio
Stream; and
WHEREAS, the estimated $8 million project, which includes a
non-federal share of $2.5 million, proposes to minimize, if not
eliminate, our recurring flooding problems of the Alenaio; and
WHEREAS, a favorable benefit-cost ratio does exist for this
project which also poses a minimal environmental impact.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it concurs with the findings and recommendations of
the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers Final EIS of the Alenaio Stream
Flood Control Project and urges planned implementation of
improvements by the County of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this resolution to the Honorable Herbert
Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii and to Chief Engineer
Edward Harada.
