RESOLUTION N0. 625 83
WHEREAS, MS. CAROLYN S. HURRAY earned her credentials in a
career that started in 1947 when she became a secretary to the
Executive Editor of House Beautiful Magazine; and
WHEREAS, MS. HURRAY continually advanced herself in her
profession, becoming the West Coast Editor of the House
Beautiful Magazine in 1956, Public Information Officer for the
American Red Cross in 1963, the Los Angeles Times Associate
Editor of Home Magazine in 1965 and the Los Angeles Times
Editor of Home Magazine from 1975 to her retirement in
March 1983; and
WHEREAS, MS. HURRAY has contributed much of her time in
seminar participation on such subjects as Women in the Media,
Contract Design, Design 1983 and Idea Development and Market
week Program; and
WHEREAS, MS. HURRAY created a syndicated column "Your Horoe"
for 24 newspapers in the United States, and authored the book
"The Los Angeles Times California Home Book" in 1982; and
WHEREAS, MS. PIURRAY'S love for Hawaii initiated her to
invest time and resources on the Big Island, and since 1972
until her retirement in 1983 annually published in the Home
Magazine, articles about the State of Hawaii, and emphasized
the beauty of the Big Island, our open spaces, the diverse
industries, the unique homes, life styles, the exciting geology
and the interesting citizens to a readership of 2 1/2 miilian
people; and

WHEREAS, MS. HURRAY is the recipient of the Dorothy Dawe
Award for Excellence in Mome Furnishings, the Global Award from
the Museum of Science & Industry for Life Styles on Design,. the
Pacifica Award from the Resource Council and the Dallas Market
Award far Continuity of Design Coverage.
NOW, THEREFORE, 8E IT RESOLVED SY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to MS. CAROLYN S.
MIIRRAY for receiving the many awards and to also extend our
warmest Mahalo Por her unsolicited and effective promotion Por
the Big Island and the State of Hawaii during the past eleven
years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Cierk of the County of
Hawaii be and is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of
this resolution to MS. CAROLYN S. HURRAY.
