RESOLUTION N0. `~'~~ 83
WHEREAS, Hilo High School's Wayne G. Carvalho, Jr., won the
State individual golf title at the 19th Annual Mawaii.High School
Athletic Association golf tournament played at Kauai's Wailua Golf
Course April 21st and 22nd; and
WHEREAS, this Hilo High ,junior, son of Police Inspector and
Mrs. Wayne G. Carvalho, Sr., garnered a one-aver 73 on the first
day of competition while competing with approximately 144 high
school golfers in the 36-hole tournament for individual and team
championships; and
WHEREAS, Wayne's performance on the second day proved his
ability to overcome the ehailenge of the other competitors when he
increased his first round one-stroke edge with a final round 75;
and
klHEREAS, he was thereby able to finish the tournament with a
148 stroke total performance for a four-over par, three-stroke
margin over hfs nearest rival; and
WHEREAS, Wayne's success came with the support of his sister,
Kimberly, an alternate member oP the Kamehameha Schools team, who,
rather than play in the tournament the second day, elected to
accompany and support her brother during his final round of play.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it proudly congratulates Hilo's Wayne G.
Carvalho, Jr., for his outstanding performance in winning the
Hawaii High School Athletic Association's individual golf title
for 1983.
6E IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the L'lerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this Resolution to Wayne G.
Carvalho, Jr.; his coaches, Ted Ura and John DeMello; Hilo High's
Athletic Director, Dennis Maedo; acid Hilo High Principal, Dr. Aian
Garson.
