WHEREAS, May 1, 1983, is Law Day U.S.A. in the United
States of America; and
WHEREAS, the United States of America has been the citadel
of individual liberty and a beacon of hope and opportunity for
more than two hundred years to many millions who have sought our
shores; and
WHEREAS, the foundation of individual freedom and liberty
is the body of the law that governs us; and
WHEREAS, the Constitution of the United States of America
and the Bill of Rights are the heart of that body of law which
guarantees us many freedoms--including freedom of religious
belief, freedom to have and hold property inviolate, freedom of
assembly, freedom of speech, freedom to bear arms, freedom of
press, freedom of petition, and due process of law, among
others; and
WHEREAS, this year marks the twenty-sixth annual nationwide
observance of Law Day, and the Congress of the United States and
the President, by official proclamation, have set aside May 1 as
a special day for recognition of the place of law in American
life,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it hereby designates Sunday, May 1, 1983, as Law
Day U.S.A. in Hawaii County and calls upon all citizens,
schools, businesses, clubs, and the news media to commemorate
the role of law in our lives.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this
Resolution to the Hawaii County Bar Association.
