RESOLUTION N0.~02 8
WHEREAS, Yoshitaka Takashiba, long time macadamia nut grower and
agricultural consultant was named Kona's Outstanding Farmer for 1982
by the Kona Soil and Water Conservation District; and
WHEREAS, the selection of Yoshitaka Takashiba as Kona's
Outstanding Farmer for 1982 was based on his many years of
innovative approaches to soil conservation experiments in planting
various cover grasses, terraces and ditches for erosion control; and
WHEREAS, part of the 10-acre orchard is planted in paspalum
hieronymil, a low growing grass, that the KSWCD is presently
experimenting with; and
WHEREAS, as part of his total
prunes his trees to "open up" his
favorable environment; and
orchard management, Mr. Takashiba
orchards and create a more
WHEREAS, Mr Takashiba is currently working with the KSWCD to
improve his existing terrace and ditch system to help reduce runoff
from his orchard on Napoopoo Road.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to Yoshitaka Takashiba
for being named Kona's Outstanding Farmer for 1982 by the Kona Soil
and Water Conservation Oistrlct for his innovative soil conservation
experiments.
BE IT FURTHEk RE50LVE0 that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
instructed to remit a true copy of this resolution to Yoshitaka
Takashiba end to Melvin Miranda, Chairman of the Kona Soil and Water
Conservation District.
