RESOLUTIUN N0. 6Q~ S;~{
WHEREAS, Mr. Lawrence gorge de Mello, 73, who served six terms
as the elected Auditor of Hawaii County from 1957 through 1969, died
on April 15, 1963, at his home in Hilo; and
WHEREAS, he r_ontinued his career as:a-private accountant after
his ,job as County Auditor was abolished when the Hewafi County
Charter took effect in 19F,9; and
WHEREAS, even after leaving public office, Mr. de Mello actively
participated in local politics and County government by running for
a seat on the County Council in 1972 and 197b; and
WHEREAS, Mr. de Mello contributed in shaping our County
government as we know it today.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CDUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that the Council expresses its deepest sympathy to t~is three
sons, Laurence, Donald and Jon; and two daughters, Judy and Marietta.
BE TT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the L'ounty of Hawaii
present this Resolution to Jon K. de Mello, of Hilo, as a token of
the Council's appreciation for his father's contribution as a
politician and community leader.
