Ernest Bouvet, a respected community leader of the Hamakua District, has recently retired from his longtime career in the sugar industry; and WHEREAS, during this period spanning thirty-four years, t9r. Bouvet started as a process engineer at the Medine Sugar Company in Mauritius, West Indies, a British Colony, and ascended to the office of Vice-President and General Manager of TheoDavies Hamakua Sugar Company, a position he held upon his retirement; and WHEREAS, Ernest Bouvet has been credited with the expansion of the Honokaa Sugar Company which included the installing of a 6MW and a 7.5MW turbo-generator, a 300,000 pound boiler, conceptualizing and implementing the bagasse densification process plant, and was responsible for the successful consolidation of the Honokaa and Laupahoehoe Sugar Companies thereby creating the largest single plantation in the State of Hawaii; and WHEREAS, his expertise within the industry will be perpetuated in that Mr. Bouvet has co-authored such publications as "Pelletizing Bagasse for Fuel (1980)" and "Identification of the Basic Conditions for Economic Generation of Public Electricity From Surplus Bagasse in Sugar Mill (1982)", a study commissioned by the World Bank. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends best wishes to P. Ernest Bouvet upon his retirement from his illustrious career in the sugar industry, and thanks him for the many public service contributions he so generously gave to the communities in which he resided. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii remit true copies of this resolution to Mr. P. Ernest Bouvet; Francis S. Morgan, President, of TheoDavies Hamakua Sugar; and David K. Newbigging, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Jardine, Matheson and Company, Ltd.
