RESOLUTION N0. S~~ ~'~
WHEREAS, a team comprised of four students from Paauilo
Intermediate School recently won the State Land Appreciation
Contest. by beating four neighbor island team champions; and
WHEREAS, the championship is especially noteworthy because
Aiexa Cult}reth, Jennifer Castaneda, Christopher Ignacio, as
eighth-graders, and Felicia Friend, a ninth grader, competed
against teams which vrere composed of high school students; and
WHEREAS, the State Land Appreciation Contest, sponsored
annually by the Hawaii Association of Conservation Districts,
tests the youths' knowledge in sail types, conservation practices,
and uses best suited far various soil, slope, topographic and
climatic characteristics..
NOWT, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it expresses its warmest congratulations to Alexa,
Jennifer, Christopher and Felicia for winning the Mauna Kea
District, Big Island and finally, the coveted State Championships.
8E IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council vrishes the team
continued good luck at the National Championships on P"ay G-6 in
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
send true copies of this Resolution to the four championship
members, and also, to Sadaa Muramaru, the team's Advisor and a
teacher at Paaui3.o Intermediate, Gene Aguiar, Chairman of Mauna
Kea Soil and Water Conservation District, and Les Wishard,
Director of Mauna Kea Sail and Water Conservation District, for
accomplishments well-done.
