HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 582 Draft 01 1980-19841 J `/ V RESOLUTION ND. 58~ ~`~ WHEREAS, the Queen Elisabeth 2 is currently on its Circle Pacific and Orient Odyssey Cruise and has appropriately selected Kailua-Kona as one of its ports of call; and WHEREAS, this visitation scheduled for Tuesday, March 29, 1983, will rekindle memories and the long-standing Hawaii-England connection dating back to Captain 3ames Cook's discovery of the Hawaiian islands' and to King Kalakaua's historic visit to Great Britain; and WHEREAS, spearheaded by the Kona Coast .Chamber of Commerce, the .people of Kailua are planning a fitting reception of the Queen Elizabeth 2 to mark this event and to showcase the true Aloha Spirit to our visitors, hopefully, to enhance positive word-of-mouth publicity and return visits. NOW, TNEREFURE, BE IT RESOLVED BY. THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it supports and encourages the efforts being made by the Kona Coast Chamber of Commerce and the residents of Kailua-Kona in initiating and coordinating the welcoming ceremonies and program commemorating this port of call and extends best wishes to the crew and passengers of the Queen Elizabeth 2 for a pleasant and safe cruise. 8E I7 FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be instructed to remit true copies of this Resolution to Captain Arndt of the Queen Elizabeth 2; and to Alan Pratt, Chairman of the Kona Coast Chamber of Commerce Tourism Committee.
