RESOLUTION N0. ~~~~ t3,3
WHEREAS, the Chaminade University basketball team added
another highlight to its already illustrious season by winning the
National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA}
District 2 championship by defeatino its old nemesis from t~destern
Oregon University; and
WHEREAS, by virtue of this victory, the Chaminade Silverswords
have deservedly earned a berth at the NRIA National Tournament to
beheld in Kansas City, hfissouri, beginning March 15; and
WHEREAS, during this remazkable season, the Silverswords had a
31-3 win-loss record, was rated No. ]. in the final NAIA nationwide
poll, and attained worldwide notoriety by beating the then No. 1
rated NCAA powerhouse, Virginia University; and
WHEREAS, the. state of Hawaii and its many sports fans will be
following the National tournament with great interest, confident
that the Chaminade Silverswords will represent Hawaii well and
that they will add more glory upon themselves, their school and
their loyal supporters.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends congratulations to the Chaminade University
basketball team Por winning the NAIA District 2 playoffs and
wishes them more .success at the NAIA National Championship
Tournament.
BE iT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to team
members Mark Wells; Mark Rodrigues; Ed Smith; Tim Dunham;
Scott Hanson; Jansen Strickland; Ernest Pettway; Richard Haenisch;
Jack Buich and Tony Randolph; Coach Merv Lopes; Assistant Coaches
Pete Smith and Will Pounds; Athletic Director Mike Vasconcellos;
and Father Raymond A. Roesch, SM, President.
