HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 575 Draft 01 1980-1984~~ ~ o P.ESOLUTION N0. °~75 ~3 WHEREAS, the Kalani Honua Retreat and Culture Center recently observed its first anniversary with a Ho'olaule'a to proudly reflect upon its successes in the many intercultural programs the Center offers; and WHEREAS, the celebration was also intended to benefit the 1953 Kalani Honua Summer Youth Proaxam which this year aaill includE a session for the handicapped., co-sponsored by the Hilo Association Por Retarded Citizens; a multi-language institute, co-sponsored by the Department of Education; keiki camps, performing arts program for teens, and a Hawaiian International Dance Festival; and and other interests; and WHEREAS, Kalani Honua, a unique center of learning is located in an appropriate Hawaiian environment, which features instruction by native masters of the hula, lei making, weaving, ffshing, storytelling, music and ancient crafts, augmented by workshops in performing and visual arts, and offers a continuous flow of seminars for business, science, religious WHERERS, the documented accomplishments of Kalani Honua can be attributed to the live-in, cultural experiences taught by respected resource people who have been able to bridge ttie gap between the past and tfie present. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAVlAII that it recognizes the Kalanf Honua Retreat and Cultural Center in its first successful year of operations, for providing a quality, educational experience which has benefited the people who took part in the programs and our community as a whole. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii remit true copies of this Resolution to Sheila Bright, Administrator; Richard Koob, Executive Director; Ernest Morgan; the National Endowment for the Arts and the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts.
