RESOLUTION NO. S65 83
WHEREAS, Six Big Islanders recently received the 1982
District Award of Merit, conferred annually by the Aloha Council
of the Boy Scouts of America for their outstanding voluntary
contributions in serving the young boys on the Big Island; and
WHEREAS, the award recipients are:
JOHN F. CROSS - Pukahi District Chairman
TADAO MATSUZAKI - Assistant Scoutmaster,
Troop 21 (Papaikou Hongwanji)
WILLIAM H. SEWAKE - Scoutmaster, Troop 50
(Hilo Meishoin Mission)
JAMES YOSIIIYAtâ˘IA - Scoutmaster, Troop 13
(Kiwanis Club Kilo)
HERMAN BARAWIS, SR. - Unit Commissioner,
Kona District
NAPdCY L. M. HONDA - Cub Scout Den Leader,
Hamakua-KOhala District; and
47IiEREAS, John F. Cross, retired Eagle Scout, served as
Executive Board member of. the Kilauea Council (predecessor of
Aloha Council), Council Advancement Chairman, Camp Development
Committee, Camping Committee, District Commissioner; and
WIiEREAS, Tadao A4atsuzaki, served as Cubmaster, Troop
Conuuitteeman and during the past three years ran the troop
programs, normally the duty of the Scoutmaster; and
PJHEREAS, William FI. Sewake, a 15-year veteran Scout served
as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster, Troop Cossnitteeman; and
WIiEREAS, James Yoshiyama, is instrumental in advocating and
a pioneer in Handicap Scouting giving the desired services to the
Big Island handicapped boys; and
WHEREAS, Herman Barawis, Sr., served as Cubmaster, Scoutmaster
for Pack, Unit Commissioner, also recipient of Scouters Religious
Award, Scout Training Award from their sponsors Latter Day Saint,
Keei Ward;
WHEREAS, Nancy L. I4. Ronda, served as Den Leader, Den Leader
Coach, assumed the responsibilities of the Cub Scout Roundtable
Commissioner of the District.

NOS9, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUtdCIL OF TfiE
COUNTX OF HP.h*AII that it extends its congratulations to
John F. Cross, Tadao Matsuzaki, William H. Sewake, James
Yoshiyama, Herman Barawis, Sr. and to Nancy L. M. Honda
for being honored in receiving the 1982 District Award of
Merit for their selfless contribution for Scouting on the
Big Island.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii be instructed to remit copies of this resolution to
John F. Cross, Tadao Matsuzaki, William H. Sewake, James
Yoshiyama, Herman Barawis, Sr. and to Nancy L. M. Honda.
