RESOLUTION NO. S61 83
WHEREAS, the Biq Island will be commemorating the second
National Women's History T~leek beginning March 6, 1983, with a
series of appropriate activities intended to focus upon achieve-
ments and individual accomplishments of the women of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the festivities will be initiated with two Fun
Run/Walk events on Sunday, March 6, commencing from both Hilo and
Kona, followed by a week long Ho'olaulea in East and West Hawaii,
all programmed to emphasize women's roles and contributions to
our communities; and
WHEREAS, it is recognized that American women play a vital,
economic, cultural, and social role in every phase of our nation's
endeavors; they provide the majority of volunteers for charitable
philanthropic and cultural entities; and have been in the forefront
of every major progressive social change ever made.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT THE COUNCIL OF THE COUt1TY
OF HAWAII that it acknowledges the importance of. women in our
society and recognizes the talents and contributions they have
made towards the betterment of our cherished American lifestyle.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to
Donna Saiki, Chairperson of the Committee on the Status of Women;
and Cyndy Reagan, Chairperson of the Big Island Chapter of the
National Organization of Women, along with the Council's wishes
for the successful observance of the Second National Women's
History Week.
