RESOLUTION N0. ~~~ ~~
WHEREAS, the Big Island of Hawaii, has a growing number of
active and visible retirees and senior citizens organizations,
and Shigeru Kobayashi stands out as one of its outstanding leaders
deserving of recognition and commendation; and
WHEREAS, Shigeru Kobayashi a kama'aina having been born in
Paauilo, was reared in Waiakea Town, graduated from Hilo High
School and is aretiree of the Mauna Kea Sugar Company; and
WHEREAS, during his 39-year working career, Mr. Kobayashi
was best known for his role in ILWU activities having held such
responsible positions as the Unit grievance Committee Chairman,
Unit Stewards Council Chairman, Unit Secretary and Unit Chairman;
and
WHEREAS, upon his retirement he sustained his ties with the
union serving as the elected President of the ILWU Statewide
Pensioners in 1974 and was re-elected to that same office for the
1982-84 term; and
WHEREAS, despite Mr. Kobayashi's retirement status, he found
time for commitments to other community service including being
President of the Papaikou Senior Citizens (1976-78); President
of the Kaumana One-mile Kumiai (.1980); President of the Hilo
Kapuna Bowling Club (.1981); Manager of the Papaikou Senior Citizens
Softball Team (.1982-84) and in 1977 was honored as the recipient
of the County of Hawaii Outstanding Senior Citizen award.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUrdCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it commends Shigeru Kobayashi for his humanitarian
deeds and his years of dedicated service to the ILWU and the
various community organizations which. he served so well.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of
Hawaii transmit a copy of this to Shigeru and Sui Lan Kobayashi
with the County's wishes for continued good health and service
to the community.
