RESOLUTION N0. `~'~~ ~~
WHEREAS, in the passing of former Senator David C. McClung,
S6, on February 18, 1963, Hawaii lost an outstanding pioneer
statesman who played a major role fn establishing policy and
direction during Hawaii's first i5 years of Statehood; and
PdNEREA5, while serving in the Territorial House of
Representatives From 1958 through 1964, Senator McClung introdured
many important labor and land legislation that changed Hawaii in
the years just before and after Statehood; and
WHEREAS, after a two-year break, Mr. McClung returned to state
government as a State Senator from 1966-74, serving as its
majority leader for two years and then, as President of the Senate
for six years; and
WHEREAS, Senator McClung's skill and mastery in politics can
be further attested by his holding every top position in the
Democratic Party, and also, being a respected member of the inner
circle of the Democratic National Committee.
NOW, THEREFORE, 8E IT RESOLVED BY. THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
IiAWAII that it extends its candolences to his wife, Mrs. Mildred
McClung, and daughter, Sharon Kim Nyuk McClung.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Senator McClung be remembered in
the annals of Hawaii political history as one of the pioneer
Democrats who spearheaded the Democratic revolution here in the
late 2950's and early 1960's.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is instructed to remit true copies of..this Resolution to his wife,
Mrs. Mildred McClung and his daughter, Sharon Kim Nyuk McClung.
