ORDINANCE NO.
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE PARKS AND RECREATIONAL FACILITY
SCHEDULE ESTABLISHED BY ORDINANCE NO. 00-15, BY RENAMING THE
SEVEN SEAS LIJ`AU HOUSE IN HONOR OF SALLY KALEOHANO.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII:
SECTION 1. Findings and Purpose. Sally Kapiolehua Kaleohano was born on
November 23, 1934 at Pu`uanahulu, North Kona. In 1946, she moved to Keaukaha, in the
District of South Hilo, where she resided until her untimely passing on December 8, 1999.
Sally began her County employment with the Department of Parks and Recreation in
1976 as a Building Custodian II and worked her way up to Working Foreman at the Ho`olulu
Complex. In 1985, she was selected as the Outstanding Employee of the Year for the County of
Hawaii. Through her special blend of humility, hard work and aloha, Sally contributed
significantly to the success of many recreational and community events held at the Ho`olulu
Complex.
The purpose of this ordinance is to recognize and commemorate in perpetuity the many
years of unique and dedicated service of Sally Kaleohano to the County of Hawaii, by naming
the Seven Seas Luau House in her honor, pursuant to Chapter 15, Article 8, Section 15-67 of
the Hawaii County Code of 1983, which establishes guidelines for the naming of county parks
and recreation facilities.
SECTION 2. That unnumbered item relating to the Seven Seas Luau House contained
in the Parks and Recreational Facility Schedule, Parks, Hilo/Hamakua, established by Ordinance
No. 00-15 is amended to read as follows:
"Aunty Sally Kaleohano's [Seven Seas] Luau [House] Hale"
SECTION 3. Material to be repealed is bracketed. New material is underscored. In printing
this ordinance, the brackets and underscoring need not be included.
SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof to any person of
circumstance, is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the
ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end, the
provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
