Dear Councilwoman Emily: Re: Purchase of Steam Vents on Hwy. 130
The greater community has had free access to the above-referenced property for 54
years enjoying the benefits of health and spiritual mana the steam brings to many
island residents. It would be an immeasurable loss to the greater community to deny us
the blessings of this Aina by permitting the property to be sold to private developers.
This land is very sacred to the traditional Native Hawaiians from the Ophikao area and
for that reason alone it should be preserved. At any time of day you will find local
people, and visitors from around the world, sitting quietly in peaceful meditation with
the steam curling gently around them. Rain or shine. My husband and I have
experienced this peace and serenity as our aching bones are being soothed.
Placement of the steam vents land on the prioritized list of island properties to be
purchased from the county's open space fund is vital to the health and spirit of the local
community. Mahalo nui loa for your dedication to your goal of having the County
purchase the steam vent property on Highway 130.
