To Whom It May Concern;
1 am writing to voice my Strong, support for the purchase of the steam vents off Hwy 130
between Pahoa and Kalapaaa These magical little eaves are . a natural. wonder and precious
resource and should not be owned by a private party, but rather held in public trust.
I would personally love to see the main; vents remain" exactly as they are so that our children and
grandchildren can marvel at them as w e do now. I understand it may make sense to develop the
lower part of the property with a cultwmi center and parking lot, but I deeply hope the upper
vents can remain wild and simple for the residents like myself who hike into them several times
a week without guidelines or hours of operation or safety measures, etc. Please allow a little of
the wildness and ruggedaess of Puna to remain wild and rugged, Take heed of.loni Nfitchell's
famous protest song, "They paved Paradise and put up a parking lot... "
Let's be wiser than that And what there should be no argument about whatsoever is the fact
that these few acres should not be held in private hands. The steam vents are a wonderful public
resource.
Mahalo to all of you who are struggling to find a way to purchase this land. It's the right thing.
