Dear Auntie Emily,
I am writing concerning the unique part of Puna commonly known as "the steam vents."
As it has been put on the market and is currently open to possible private development, I
very much urge the county to purchase and protect this resource for the citizens of this
county, and to protect this important part of what makes Puna the wonderful place that it
is.
I hardly need mention the danger of having this property fall into the bands of owners
whose motives are not concerned with the best interest of the residents, or the heritage of
Hawaii and it's people's connection with the land.
Even if development of some kind is inevitable, let it be under the care and for the benefit
of all the citizens living here and who will care for and not exploit this wonderful
example of Pele's power and the island's beauty.
Please, let's find a way to buy it.
