HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0401.026 2008-2010 corn Tp--C~ Sacl1~, I'm here regarding Resolutions 200, 201 and 202 because I think the move to change the current leadership is irresponsible. Dissension is good if handled in an adult manner. When everyone in a group believes and acts the same way, there is no room for new ideas and growth. The Council before this had their disagreements, but they were able to work them out, and the county as a whole benefitted. Doing anything other than that is tantamount to the spoiled child not getting his way so he takes his ball and bat and goes home. It is apparent that we have Council members who do not have experience and are trying to gain that experience at the expense of the voters. It is also apparent that we have Council members who are responsible for infighting and who are more concerned about power than the good of the people. We need to keep our senior Council members involved, as they currently appear to be the only ones willing to work with all Council members and with the entire County's interests at heart. Recently I read about a Council member who polled people regarding the 2% Land Fund. He said that many of the people didn't even know about the issue and, therefore, found this a reason to suspend the fund to help balance the budget. In market research these people are known as "terminates". In other words, if someone is not aware of an issue, product or service, they are unable to intelligently answer the questions so the interview is stopped and not counted. He also said that, as a coach, if something doesn't work, you make a change. Just because not everything goes your way doesn't mean it isn't working. His reasoning thus far should be an embarrassment to the Council and his district. Another Council member accused certain other members of pushing relentlessly to get what they want. This was in reference to lands to be purchased. This Council member was very much in agreement to having all members list what parcels of land they felt should be purchased with the 2% money. But obviously, when she found that parcels in or around her district were towards the bottom of the list compiled by her colleagues, she accused other Council members of being pushy; always taking and, unlike her, "Aunty Aloha", never giving. If this member is going to preach "Aloha" and talk about being "pono", she needs to start walking the talk. Our County Council is supposed to work for the good of the ENTIRE County. What is being presented in these resolutions is a blatant effort to completely dilute the balance of power throughout this county. The members who go along with this should be ashamed and disgraced. The only positive side of this is that it will let the voters know that we have Council members who are only concerned about power. And I truly believe that the voters will realize, for all the frustrations we have been through with certain members of this Council, that we do have the final say - When we vote. You might get away with this childish behavior now, but there are those of us who are tallying your voting records and your actions, and there are publications exposing your unprofessional behavior, and with this information, the voters will know who truly has their best interests at heart when they go into the voting booth. Date JUN 1 R Ong _ While I'm sure it will be quite entertaining to stay to hear certain Council members try to justify this ridiculous action, I have better things to do. So I will leave you with a saying that puts it quite succinctly: A BODY THAT HAS NO EARS TO LISTEN, HAS NO HEAD TO GOVERN. Only a few of you on the present Council truly have the best interests of the ENTIRE County at heart and, therefore, are deserving of the privilege to work for the voters. The rest of you have forgotten who works for whom. Aloha.
