AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 24, OF THE HAWAII COUNTY CODE 1983 (1995 EDITION), RELATING TO VEHICLES AND TRAFFIC. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII: SECTION 1. Chapter 24, article 7, division 1, section 24-137, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 edition), is amended to read as follows: Section 24-137. Yield sign described; compliance. (a) The yield sign shall comply with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devises for Streets and Highways, as amended. (b) The driver of a vehicle approaching a yield sign, if required for safety to stop, shall stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection or, in the event there is no crosswalk, at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, then at the point nearest the intersecting roadway where the driver has a view of approaching traffic on the intersecting roadway before entering the intersection. ~ The locations described in schedule 13 section 24-265, are yield locations when marked by appropriate signs ig ving, notice thereof. SECTION 2. Chapter 24, article 10, division 2, section 24-265, schedule 13, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (1995 edition), is amended to read as follows: Schedule 24-265. Schedule 13. [Reserved.] Yield locations. ~ Hamakua North Hilo ~ South Hilo Haihai Street, westbound, the right-turn lane to Ainaola Drive. ~2,~ Waianuenue Avenue, westbound, the through lane intersecting the extension of Lele Street near Carvalho Park. Ka`u ~ Kohala ~f Kona Kuakini Highway, northbound, the right-turn lane to Kaiwi Street. ~ Puna SECTION 3. Material to be repealed is bracketed. New material is underscored. In printing this ordinance, the brackets, bracketed material and underscoring need not be included. SECTION 4. If any provision of this ordinance, or the application thereof to any person or circumstance, is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions or applications of the ordinance which can be given effect without the invalid provision or application, and to this end, the provisions of this ordinance are declared to be severable. SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its approval.
