RE: Resolution 67- 09 DOFAW
Eradication of Feral Cattle (Honuaula)
The Hawaii Cattlemen's Association believes that the problem of removal of feral
cattle from our forest reserves requires a thoughtful, collaborative approach
which is sensitive to issues of public safety, prudent resource management,
property rights and animal welfare.
Over the years, the HCA has repeatedly demonstrated its interest and
willingness to work with the State and others to develop appropriate protocols
and procedures to deal with this issue. We continue to encourage this kind of
dialogue and are very willing to participate in further discussions.
We also feel it is important to point out that were it not for many of the ranchers in
the State, thousands of acres of private forested lands as well as privately
maintained access to thousands of acres of publicly owned forests simply would
not exist today.
Respectfully Submitted,
Hawaii Cattlemen's Association
