RESOLUTION N0. 5~8 ~
WHEREAS, Mrs. Patricia Bergin, the Principal of the Waimea
Elementary and Intermediate School, recently won the Outstanding
Library Service Award for School Administrators; and
WHEREAS, this annual contest recognizes outstanding school
administrators whose commitments enhance effective school library
programs; and
WHEREAS, Johanna Herrick, the school librarian who nominated
Principal Bergin cited that Mrs. Bergin (1) worked actively and
enthusiastically to develop a school wide research skills conti-
nuums related to currinulum; (2) supported planning for in-service
training sessions for faculty on integrating class content with
library skills; (3) created a library advisory cr~ameeand
establish goals and objectives for the library p g
WHEREAS, Principal Bergin a product .b £. the secondary schools
system in Hilo, the University of Hawaii at Hilo, and graduated
from the Kansas State University where she attained a Bachelor s
Degree in Education and a Master's Degree in Reading, firmly
believes that teachers and parents must encourage, stimulate and
bring about a real excitement concerning reading for entertainment
and information for the purpose of building and foundation for
the life long appreciation of books and the learning opportunities
it creates..
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that it extends congratulations to Principal Patricia
Bergin upon her winning of the esteemed Outstanding Library Service
Award for School Administrators.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
be instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to
Mrs. Patricia Bergin, Mrs. Johanna Herrick, Dr. Donnis H.•T;hompson
Superintendent of Education and Dr. Kiyoto Mizuba, ~Iawaii District
Superintendent.
