RESOLUTION NO. 79S 83
WHEREAS, Mr. Tadao Okimoto, Manager of the State of Hawaii
Wailoa Visitors Center, will be retiring after a commendable twenty-
four years of dedicated service to both the County and State
governments; and
WHEREAS, as head of the Wailoa Visitors Center since its incep-
tion in 1970, Tadao Okimoto has programmed-this popular facility to
continuously showcase the history and culture of the many national-
ities which make up our island community, through a variety of art
and artifact exhibits or special ethnic events; and
WHEREAS, while known for his activities and accomplishments at
the Center, Tadao Okimoto is also highly esteemed as community acti-
vist having won honors from and served in leadership roles with such
organizations as the Papaikou Hongwanji Mission, the Young Buddhist
Association, the 4-H Adult Voluntary Leaders, the Democratic Party,
the Hawaii Government Employees Association, the National Foundation
of the March of Dimes, the Tuberculosis and Health Association, and
the Hawaii County Economic Opportunity Council; and
WHEREAS, Tadao Okimoto, a kama'aina resident of Onomea, has
indeed made an indelible imprint of his lifestyle on the Big Island,
as besides his civil service career, he has had experiences as a bus
service operator, an airline ticket agent, a travel tour conductor,
a sugar cane grower and in all of these activities, he has distin-
guished himself well and, more importantly, has made a lot of
friends in the process.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its congratulations and commendations to
Mr. Tadao Okimoto upon his imminent retirement and for his community
service deeds which he has performed so well over many years.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
instructed to transmit a true copy to Mr. Tadao Okimoto along with
its wishes for a happy and meaningful retirement.
