HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 782 Draft 01 1980-19840 0 RESOLUTION NO. ~8~ ~~ WHEREAS, on September 8, 1983, a tour plane with ten people aboard crash-landed into the ocean off the Keahole Airport in Kona, Hawaii; and WHEREAS, this unfortunate and hairy incident could have resulted in a serious tragedy had it not been for good luck and a lot of people helping in a successful life-saving mission; and WHEREAS, the good fortunes that had major impact upon the rescue efforts were (1) Candida, a charter fishing vessel was at the scene within five minutes, picking up survivors and (2) the County fire rescue personnel practicing nearby applied effective mouth-to-mouth resuscitation which restored breathing to one of more seriously injured passengers; and WHEREAS, timely efforts, good luck and rescue expertise from caring people can be credited to the happy conclusion to what could have been a disastrous catastrophe; and WHEREAS, while there were super efforts exerted by several individuals directly involved in the mission, there were many others performing or serving vital supportive roles which contributed to the happy ending of this life endangering situation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it extends its commendation and appreciation to the humanitarian and skillful actions of all of the people that participated in a successful rescue mission which saved ten lives. l.es. NOV 21983 • O O BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is instructed to transmit true copies of this resolution to Captain Dom Fagundes, crewmen Whit Hagerman and Mike Chaisson, of the vessel Candida (Akamai Fishing Tours); and Hawaii County Firemen Scott Susman, Don Ishii, and John DeMello along with the Council's appreciation for a job well done.
