Resolution
WHEREAS, the Senate at the Twelfth State Legislature in 1983,
passed Senate Resolution No. 65, requesting further action on the
designation of a State Natural Recreational and Historic Park at
Kapua, Honomalino, Okoe, Kaulanamauna and Manuka districts in South
Kona and Kau, Island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, this Senate Resolution requests that the Department of
Land and Natural Resources renew its plans to create a Honomalino
State Park with minimal improvements but preserving the significant
archeological sites in the area; and
WHEREAS, the Resolution further proposes that the Department
investigate the acquisition of the privately owned portion of the
proposed State Park; and
WHEREAS, the Resolution further resolves that the Department
submit a report to the Legislature on its progress in developing the
Honomalino State Park 30 days prior to the convening of the Regular
Session of 1984.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it fully supports Senate Resolution No. 65 and requests
that the Department of Land and Natural Resources implement this
Resolution and send to the County Council a copy of their report to
the 1984 Regular Session of the Legislature.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a certified copy of this Resolution
be transmitted to Senator Dante Carpenter, Senator Richard
Henderson, Senator A. Malama Solomon, and to Susumu Ono, the
Chairperson of the Board of Land and Natural Resources.
