County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, the Big Island of Hawaii is blessed with an abundance
of untapped resources and is just beginning to realize its
development potentials; and
WHEREAS, with approximately 80% of the total population, Oahu's
limited resources are constantly threatened by ever-increasing urban
demands; and
WHEREAS, the island of Hawaii, with its massive land area, can
accommodate major development and furnishes the Hilo and Kona
Airports as two important gateways; and
WHEREAS, the public and private sectors have united their
efforts to attract new industries and to strengthen existing
industries so we may play a greater contributory role toward a
balanced growth throughout the State.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it urges the State Administration and the State
Legislature to work with the public and private sectors of the
Big Island in developing its potentials so that urban pressures may
be lessened on Oahu's limited resources.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit copies of this Resolution to the Honorable George R.
Ariyoshi, Governor of the State of Hawaii; the Honorable
Richard Wong, President of the Senate; the Honorable Henry Peters,
Speaker of the House of Representatives; Members of the State
Legislature from the Big Island and the Honorable Herbert T.
Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii.
