"JS4 83 WHEREAS, the newly named Big Island Association of the Blind, a chapter of the Hawaii Federation of the Blind and an affiliate of the National Federation, has recommitted itself to achieving its initial goals set in 1980, when it received its charter; and WHEREAS, these worthy intentions were to promote federal, state and county legislation which would be beneficial to the federations, improve upon the publ'ic's attitude towards the blind and to provide outlets for self-introspection and evaluation for the concerns of the blind; and WHEREAS, since its inception, the Big Island Association of the Blind has secured improvements to the County Building, such as raised numbers for the various departments, elevator buttons done in braille, and the building directory with helpful directional arrows; and WHEREAS, the work and the continuing challenges attendant to the concerns of the blind, will necessitate dedication from thee. association's members, families, friends and support from the public, to properly address and hopefully resolve these conditions. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it commends the endeavors of the Big Island Association of the Blind and wishes them success in their worthy pursuits. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is instructed to transmit true copies of this resolution to its new officers, namely, President Peter Araujo; Vice-President Dane Alani; Secretary Ronald Chow, and Treasurer Judy Pavao, along with its wishes for a meaningful tenure.
