HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 750 Draft 01 1980-1984~'`r O O County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the road culvert situated in Kapaau, North Kohala, is inadequate to accommodate drainage during periods of heavy rains either locally or from higher elevations; and WHEREAS, during periods of heavy rain, the culvert overflows onto the adjoining portion of Akoni Pule Highway making it impassable and isolating residents of the area from medical, police and fire services; and WHEREAS, preliminary estimates indicate the construction of an adequate culvert to replace the present one would be $300,000 of which 75% would expect to be borne by federal funds; and WHEREAS, the State Department of Transportation is requesting the allocation of $25,000 from funds appropriated from the last legislature to conduct preliminary design and rights-of-way plans for replacement of this hazard in our community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it urges the Department of Transportation to proceed with this action and Governor Ariyoshi to approve disbursement of such funds. , BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is directed to send copies of this Resolution to Governor George R. Ariyoshi, State Department of Transportation Director Dr. Ryokichi Higashionna, Hawaii's Congressional Delegation and the North Kohala Traffic Safety Committee.
