HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 747 Draft 01 1980-1984~' O O County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii finds that over the years, storms have deteriorated a natural breakwater just outside Kahaluu Beach Park permitting strong currents to enter the sheltered beach area; and WHEREAS, the Council finds that repairs to this natural breakwater, locally referred to as the "menehune breakwater," involves the U. S. Corps of Engineers; and WHEREAS, the U. S. Corps of Engineers, responding to a petition from the people and to a request from the County of Hawaii; has agreed to initiate a feasibility study on this project; and WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii, hopeful that the project shall be deemed feasible, recognizes that this project will require participation by both Federal and County governments. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it hereby requests the assistance of the U. S. Corps of Engineers in restoring the "menehune breakwater" at the Kahaluu Beach Park. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this resolution to the Commanding General, U. S. Corps of Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division; and to the Honorable Herbert Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii. Dated at Hilo, Hawaii, this 5th -day of October , 1983.
