Resolution
WHEREAS, on October 20, 1982, representatives of County,
State, and the Federal government were advised by residents of
South Kona, Hawaii, of the flood hazards which have been affecting
the area; and
WHEREAS, testimonies were presented which described much
property damage as well as concerns of future destruction; and
WHEREAS, these testimonies, along with historical reports of
property and road damages, suggest an immediate need for an
evaluation of the South Kona area in terms of flood control; and
WHEREAS, the Council finds that governmental expertise in this
area rests with the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it hereby requests the U. S. Army Corps of Engineers
to initiate a preliminary study of the flooding problems of South
Kona, Hawaii, and assist the County and the people of Hawaii in
the resolution of this problem.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
is hereby directed to transmit a true copy of this Resolution to
Lieutenant Colonel Kenneth E. Sprague, District Engineer, Corps of
Engineers, Pacific Ocean Division.
