RESOLUTION N0. ~~40 S.~
WHEREAS, the Sexual Assault Support Service, a special project
of the YWCA for the past five years has provided vital services to
our Big Island community; and
WHEREAS, the staff and volunteers provide immediate 24-hour
direct and confidential support to victims and their families who
have been sexually abused; and
WHEREAS, the organization offers continuing assistance to
victims by coordinating the services of the police, hospitals,
Department of Health and other community resources to help the
victims of sexual abuse through their period of crisis and recovery;
and
WHEREAS, the Sexual Assault Support Service offers an
educational awareness and prevention program on sexual abuse to our
people through films and presentations to schools and community
groups; and
WHEREAS, the crisis intervention and educational programs are
offered free of charge to every individual and to every area of the
island by calling, Sexual Assault Support Service Hotline -
Telephone 935-0677; and
WHEREAS, the Big Island Chapter has affiliated itself with the
Statewide and National Coalition on Sexual Assault with a commitment
to broaden and improve the services that it offers; and

WHEREAS, Mayor Herbert Matayoshi has proclaimed the week of
September 11 to 17 "Sexual Assault Awareness Week."
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it call upon the citizens of the County of Hawaii to be
aware of and support the efforts of the Sexual Assault Support
Service offered by the YWCA.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that it extend its deepest appreciation
to the YWCA for sponsoring the Sexual Assault Support Service on the
Island of Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
instructed to send a true copy of this resolution to the YWCA Sexual
Assault Support Service.
