S. Senate to introduce S. B. 788, reducing the sugar loan support price from its present minimum of 17 cents per pound to 14 cents per pound, and to amend H. R. 2733, seeking to freeze the sugar loan support program at its present 17 cents per pound; and WHEREAS, the Council is further aware that passage of such legislation could result in an annual $60 million sugar revenue loss and an annual State tax revenue loss of $107 million. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it opposes any federal legislation that would reduce the sugar loan program rate, or freeze it at its present level.
