Resolution
WHEREAS, Hapuna Beach offers by far, the best public swimming
and sunbathing beach park on the island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, Hapuna Beach has always been a favorite recreational
spot for tourists and islanders alike; and
WHEREAS, Hapuna Beach can be a treacherous swimming area when
strong currents or undertows are present; and
WHEREAS, the State Department of Land and Natural Resources,
Division of State Parks, should, in its management of the Hapuna
Beach Park provide at a minimum, lifeguard services.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it urges the State Department of Land and Natural
Resources to plan, program and immediately provide lifeguard
services at Hapuna Beach Park.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit copies of this Resolution to Mr. Susumu Ono, Chairman,
Department of Land and Natural Resources; Mr. Roy K. C. Sue, State
Parks Administrator, State Parks, Outdoor Recreation and Historic
Sites Division; and to Mr. Seiso Kamimura, Big Island Parks
Superintendent, Division of State Parks.
