HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 722 Draft 01 1980-1984~, s . 0 0 County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, public testimony during a recent State Commission on Transportation meeting focused upon the continuing pollution problem of Hilo Harbor; and WHEREAS, primary cause of the pollution is attributed to the deterioration of the pipelines used in the discharge of fuels and the loading of molasses; and WHEREAS, Hilo Harbor also serves as the primary marine recreation facility for East Hawaii, activities include fishing, swimming, sailing, canoeing and other small boat activities; and WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii takes this opportunity to express its concern of the ongoing pollution of Hilo Harbor caused by the deteriorating of the pipelines. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it requests the State Department of Transportation to expedite its efforts to resolve this pollution problem. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii transmit copies of this Resolution to the Honorable George R. Ariyoshi, Governor of the State of Hawaii; Dr. Ryokichi Higashionna, Director, State Department of Transportation; Mr. Charles Clark, Director, Department of Health; Mr. Vincent Adams, Harbor Master, Hawaii County; and to the Commanding Officer, U. S. Coast Guard Cutter Cape Small (WPB 95300). Dated at Kona, Hawaii, this 7th. day of September , 1983.
