RESOLUTION NO. 'sg~ ~a
WHEREAS, the 6th Annual Macadamia Nut Harvest Festival is now
being observed and will continue through August 21 in Honokaa, the
Macadamia Nut Capital of the World; and
WHEREAS, this well received social and recreational extravaganza
has this year been appropriately themed the "Return of the Perfect
Nut", has been growing in popularity as attested by the well
attended festival events; and
WHEREAS, for this year's programs such offerings as a Hamakua
Grown Talent Show, the Market Day coordinated by the Honokaa
Merchants Association, a cabaret show titled Hallellujah Hawaii, a
parade coordinated by the Hamakua Jaycees, and a country fair
formatted in the spirit of an "Oldtime Fourth of July; and
WHEREAS, besides this array of attractions, for the sporting
enthusiasts, there will be a men's slow-pitch and a senior citizen
softball tournament; the unique Hawaiian Holiday Masters Golf
Tournament; the 15 Kilometer Mac Nut Endurance Run, which will
encompass a five kilometer Fun Run; and finally highlighted by the
18 mile Hawaiian Holiday Handicap Endurance Horse Race; and
WHEREAS, the entire festival is intended to deservedly focus and
acknowledge the important role that the macadamia nut industry has
and is expected to play in the economic well-being of the Big Island.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it recognizes the sponsors' and the community's efforts
in their nuturing of the annual macadamia nut festival into the
success status it has now attained and wishes them continued good
fortune.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to the
Macadamians, Inc., the Hawaiian Holiday Inc., and the Hawaiian
Macadamia Nut Producer's Association.
