WHEREAS, United Airlines recently announced its plans for
commencing daily DC-10 flights from Los Angeles to Keahole Airport
in Kona, to begin September 7, 1983; and
WHEREAS, the Los Angeles-Kona flights will generate more visitor
traffic and allow visitors to gain direct access to "Gold Coast"
attractions; and
WHEREAS, the increased visitor count will inevitably result in
increased hotel occupancy rates, employment opportunities, and
increased economic activity in general: anrt
WHEREAS, the proposed United Airlines Kona service will allow
for additional transportation of agricultural goods, greatly
benefitting the neighboring farmers of l:ona end Waimea; and
WHEREAS, the additional air service, as United proposes, is
vital step in preparing for future growth in the Kona and Kchala
districts.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED 4Y THE COUNCTL GF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that United Airlines be commended and supported for
increasing its service to the island of Hawaii by beginning daily
direct Los Angeles to Kana flights, once again demonstrating its
dedication to serving the needs of our island.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
submit copies of this Resolution to Mr. Richard J. Ferris, United
Airlines Chairman; Mr. Edward Carlson, United Airlines Chairman
Emeritus; Mr. Stan Randolph, United Airlines Manager of Marketing;
Mr. Ryokichi Higashionna, Director, Department of Transportation;
and Mr. Owen t•9iyamoto, Chief, Airports Division, Department of
Transportation.
