Resolution
WHEREAS, the Big Island Visitor Industry has received
encouraging news that United Airlines will be flying directly to the
Keahole Airport in Kona; and
WHEREAS, the anticipated increased passenger arrivals at the
Keahole Airport will not only add to the occupancy rate for the Kona
hotels, but will certainly result in some overflows to the east side
of our island; and
WHEREAS, the County's Research and Development Department is
coordinating the upstart of the "Big Island Value Coupon" program
encouraging retailers to get involved in the benefits of the visitor
traffic; and
WHEREAS, the coupon program will also expose the visitors to the
commercial entities and activities available on the Big Island.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it supports the efforts of the "Big Island Value Coupon"
and commends United Airlines in their commitment to the visitor
promotion program for the Big Island.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the program participants be
commended and that other merchants be encouraged to participate in
this innovative program.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
transmit a copy of this Resolution to the Honorable Herbert T.
Matayoshi, Mayor of the County of Hawaii and Mr. Stanley Randolph,
Marketing Manager for United Airlines.
