RESOLUTION NO.~
WHEREAS, in a joint private and public sector effort, a proposed
plan to relocate the Farmers Home Administration's (FmHA)
administrative offices to Honolulu has now been duly cancelled; and
WHEREAS, this successful community campaign was led by the
effective actions of U. S. Senator, the Honorable Dan Inouye, who
utilized his legislative talents and skillfully secured the necessary
support from his bi-partisan congressional colleagues, especially
Senate Majority Leader, Howard Baker to stop what appeared to be an
emminent move; and
WHEREAS, other parties namely, State Senator Richard Henderson,
Mayor Herbert Matayoshi, Councilman Frank De Luz III, the Hawaii
Island Chamber of Commerce, the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and
Industry of Hawaii and the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce all were
very instrumental factors in channelling and articulating the local
concerns into a force to be reckoned with; and
WHEREAS, all of these endeavors ultimately turned out to be a
victory for all entities concerned, as it will retain the FmHA
administration offices on the Big Island to the benefit of the
majority of the clientele it serves, it will sustain the employment
of its dedicated staff who were faced with a loss of a job or be
forced to re-locate their residences and families.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its appreciation to U. S. Senator, Dan Inouye;
U. S. Senator, Howard Baker; State Senator Richard Henderson; Mayor
Herbert Matayoshi; Councilman Frank De Luz III; the Hawaii Island
Chamber of Commerce; the Japanese Chamber of Commerce and Industry of
Hawaii, and the Portuguese Chamber of Commerce for spearheading the
deserved retention of the FmHA's administrative office on the Big
Island.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
instructed to remit true copies of this resolution to United States
Senator, Daniel K. Inouye; United States Senator, Howard Baker; State
Senator, Richard Henderson; Mayor Herbert T. Matayoshi, Councilman
Frank De Luz III, the Hawaii Island Chamber of Commerce, the Japanese
Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Hawaii, and the Portuguese
Chamber of Commerce.
