Resolution
WHEREAS, on Marchll, 1984 the Senate Finance Committee approved
an amendment offered by U. S. Senator Spark Matsunaga that will
extend the current four cents per gallon tax rebate .to taxicab
operators, from September 30, 1984 to September 30, 1985; and
WHEREAS, the primary purpose in giving the tax rebate to taxicab
operators was to promote the conservation of energy, by reducing the
consumption of gasoline used by private cars, and also reduce
congestion on the streets in suburban and small towns; and
WHEREAS, the extension will give the agency in the Department of
Transportation time to evaluate the tax rebate in relation to~the
conservation of energy.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its support of the passage of the amendment
which would give four cents per gallon tax rebates for another year
beginning September 30, 1984 to the taxicab operators.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii
remit a copy of this resolution to Senator Spark Matsunaga, Senator
Daniel Inouye, Representative Daniel Akaka and Representative
Cecil Heftel.
