RESOLUTION N0. 89$ $~
WHEREAS, the Hawaii National Guard Association, which is comprised of 500
active and retired officers from both the Army and Air National. Guard, will
hold its Annual h"~embership meeting on May 12 in Hilo; and
tJHEREAS, the National Guard of the State of Hawaii is recognized and
appreciated as awell-trained and disciplined force established to respond to
civil and natural emergencies but more i;nportantly, is an integral element of
Pmerica's total National Defense; and
WHEREAS, the National Guard has always performed its missions with
dispatch and prcfessionalism each time that it has been called to serve the
State of Hawaii, and in particular, the Biy Island during its frequent needs
for assistance, with most recently the lava flow threat to the City of Hilo.
NU1d, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
it wishes the Hawaii National Guard Association an enjoyable and productive
business session, and also encourage the Association to extend an invitation
to tire National Guard Association of the United States to consider the Big
Island as a future conference site.
BE IT FURTHER RESIkVED that the Council take this means to express a
special congratulations for its 16th Anniversary since answering its call to
Federal mobilization on Play 13, 196B, and a heartfelt tribute for the L9 men
of the '29th Infantry Brigade who gave their lives in that call-up.
BE IT FURTHER RESULVED that the Clerk cf the County of Hawaii send copies
of this resolution to Major General Alexis Lum, State Adjutant General;
Brigadier General Edward P,ichardson, Connrander, Hawaii Air Guard; Brigadier
General Irwin Lockett, Jr•., Commander, Hawaii Army National Guard; Colonel
Haruo Shigezawa, President of the HNGA; and Lieutenant Colonel Henry Hara,
Corrunander of the 2nd Battalion, for his unheralded but outstanding supporting
service he has provided the County of Hawaii these past 2U years.
