Resolution
WHEREAS, the Council of the County of Hawaii, desirous of
improving the quality of life for our people, find need to enhance
the natural beauty of our County; and
WHEREAS, in promoting an increased awareness of our island's
beauty, it is necessary that our streets, parks and other public
places be free of unsightly litter and trash; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Council has established its
anti-litter position through its Subcommittee on Beautification, as
evidenced by its public scrutiny of our problems, by its
encouragement of private anti-litter efforts, and by its program of
erecting litter prohibited signs on our highways; and
WHEREAS, it is imperative that litter and beautification be an
on-going program with public education and participation as the most
effective means by which we can maintain and improve our County's
environment.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it calls upon all our citizens to participate in a
Beautify Hawaii County Day on June 23, 1984, and urges them, as
responsible individuals, and through their respective organizations,
to engage in a positive beautification effort by picking up litter
and/or planting a flowering shrub or tree.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be widely publicized
and that in doing so, should any person or organization desire to
participate in our Beautify FIawaii County Day, coordination may be
effected by calling the County Council at 961-8225•
