NO. 88"7 S4 0 WHEREAS, at the end of the 12th Session of the Hawaii State ~ Legislature, Representative Yoshito Takamine will retire from public office after twenty-six consecutive years of public service; and WHEREAS, from his election in 1958 to the then Territorial Legislature to the present, Representative Takamine has represented the districts of Hamakua and North and South Kohala; and WHEREAS, during his tenure, Representative Takamine has proven his leadership, for he has served as Assistant Majority Leader on the important House Policy Committee, as Chairman of the House Labor Committee, Chairman of the Harbors and Airport Committee, Chairman of the House Agricultural Committee, as well as being selected Vice-Chairman of numerous House Committees; and WHEREAS, as an elder statesman with vast knowledge and wide range of experience, he has counseled and shared his insight with many young legislators and has offered advice to other governmental agencies, to the trade unions, and to the business communities as well; and WHEREAS, when not engaged in his legislative duties, Representative Takamine spends his time as Hawaii Division Director of the International Longshoremen's and Warehousemen's Union Local 142, and will serve out his thirty-four years of full time service for the Union, which began in 1950; and WHEREAS, ILWU Director Takamine is responsible for legislation which provided for the best in worker's and accident compensation, supported education, consumer protection, health care, visitor industries, conservation, the protection of our natural resources, and many other legislative bills to generally benefit the people as a whole; and WHEREAS, Representative Takamine will always be remembered as a man and public servant who has done so much to establish the worth, the dignity and the appreciation of the working men and women of Hawaii. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it congratulates and thanks Representative Yoshito Takamine for his outstanding contributions to the people of Hawaii.
