FC-441 - amends Resolution 875 by deleting the portion of the resolved statement that states "and opposes their conversion of long term care facilities"; approve & adopt resolution, as amended. Dated April 11, 1984 (NOTE: Council Chr. took Resolution 875, as amended, off the April 18, 1984 Council's agenda.) Re: Res. 875 County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii Resolution WHEREAS, a report prepared by a special task force of the Department of Health recommends that Ka'u, Honokaa, and Kohala hospitals be converted to intermediate care facilities and that acute in-patient services be consolidated to Hilo and Kona hospitals; and WHEREAS, H.B. 1640, presently before the legislature, includes provisions which would facilitate the proposed conversion of the Hawaii County Hospital system; and WHEREAS, as intermediate care facilities, Hawaii County's rural hospitals would provide only long-term patient care, potentially lose X-ray and laboratory services, and realize a reduction in their ability to provide emergency and acute care as presently exists; and WHEREAS, residents in the rural communities of Ka'u, Honokaa, and Kohala would have to travel many miles, to either Hilo or Kona, for medical attention, and the distance factor could endanger lives, especially in emergency situations. NOW, THEREFORE, BE ZT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that it is in favor of having the State of Hawaii maintain Ka'u, Honokaa, and Kohala hospitals as they exist, capable of providing emergency services. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is directed to transmit copies of this resolution to Honorable Dante Carpenter, Honorable Richard Henderson, Honorable Malama Solomon, Members of the Senate; Honorable Virginia Isbell, Honorable Andrew Levin, Honorable Richard Matsuura, Honorable Herbert Segawa, Honorable Yoshito Takamine, Members of the House of Representatives; Abelina Shaw, Deputy Director of Health; Kenji Nagao, Ka'u Hospital Administrator; Yoshito Iwamoto, Honokaa Hospital Administrator; Jitsuo Kotake, Kohala Hospital Administrator; and Linda Nesbit, Ka'u Ad Hoc Committee.
