RESOLUTION N0. 8~3 8~
IJHEREAS, on August 21, 1955, President lx•~ight D. 'r;isenhower
signed the Formal proclamation establishing Hawaii as the 50th State
of• the United States of America; and
WHEREAS, Hawaii will celebrate its 25th Statehood Anniversary
throughout 1984, with remembrances of the events ana efforts which
were instrumental in making statehood a reality; artd
WHEP.EAS, Mr. Iarrin P. Tiiurston, retired publisher of the
Honolulu Advertiser and long-tame Y.ona resident, served as the
Chairman of the Hawaii Statehood Commission; and
WHEi2EAS, because of the coum~iitment of Mr. Lorrin P. Thurston,
merlbers of the Statehvod Cvmmission, and others,. Hawaii now enjoys
the democracy and freedom of the American system.
NUW, THEREFORE, I3E IT IZESOLVEU IIY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNi`Y OF
HAWAII that it recognizes, during this the 25th Statehood
Anniversary, the vital rule played by Mr. Lorrin P. Thurston in
Hawaii's statehood.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Che Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
directed to transmit a true copy of this resolution to Mr. Lorrin P.
Thurston.
