RESOLUTION NO. 86S 84
WHEREAS, Pacific Resource Incorporated - Gasco (PRI Gasco) is
celebrating its 80th anniversary; and
WHEREAS, Gasco, a Honolulu firm was incorporated on August 4,
1904 and later purchased the Hilo Gas Company on October 31, 1950,
and also gave birth to PRI in 1973, which later became the parent
company; and
WHEREAS, PRI, a holding company which controls over a half dozen
subsidiaries, is considered the fourth largest corporation doing
business in Hawaii and is the only Hawaii based firm listed in the
Fortune 500 magazine; and
WHEREAS, the Hilo Gas Company was formed on January 13, 1917.
Its president was P. C. Beamer whose company manufactured butane gas
from crude oil at their Kamehameha Avenue plant; and
WHEREAS, Gasco established a satellite station in 1957 at
Kealakekua, Kona and moved to the Kailua Industrial Park in 1967
with offices located at Kona and Kamuela to give services to the
West Hawaii communities.
WHEREAS, the 1960 tidal wave which hit Hilo severely damaged
fiasco's facilities at Kamehameha Avenue and in 1962 moved to its
present location at Kalanianaole Avenue; and
WHEREAS, PRI-Gasco now serves the Big Island customers for resi-
dential: utility 1,841, non-utility 11,262; commercial: utility 136,
non-utility 745, a total of 13,984 accounts; and

WHEREAS, PRI-Gasco sales and services includes appliance
repairs, commercial and residential installations, and in the energy
savings area - solar, heat pump, cogenerations systems are sold and
installed, also offers recipes and energy conservation tips to the
public.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it extends its congratulations to PRI Gasco during their
80th anniversary celebrations now going on at Kona and Hilo and
further extends special recognition to James Gary, Chairman of the
Board and Joseph A. Pelletier, President ,for their leadership in
creating the fourth largest Hawaii corporation, and having the honor
of being named the only Hawaii based corporation in Fortune 500
Magazine.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii be
herby instructed to send a true copy of this resolution to
James Gary, Chairman of the Board and to Joseph A. Pelletier,
President of PRI.
