County of Hawaii - State of Hawaii
Resolution
WHEREAS, the Yomiuri Giants of Tokyo, Japan, have expressed a
desire to conduct its 1985 Spring Baseball Training in Kona; and
WHEREAS, the Yomiuri Giants, the perennial National Champions of
Japan, is especially welcomed and encouraged to commence Spring
Training in Hawaii because it further strengthens Good-Will and
Aloha between Hawaii and Japan; and
WHEREAS, the County of Hawaii recognizes that certain
improvements to the Kona ballfield are necessary to accommodate
professional baseball, and in concert with Mayor Matayoshi, the
Council stands firmly committed to support those basic modifications.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII that it enthusiastically endorses the Tokyo Yomiuri Giants
professional baseball organization in its plans to conduct its
1985 Spring Training in Kona, Hawaii.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Mr. Seiichi Hayashi, Senior
Director, Business Operations and Equipment Control, meet with the
Parks and Recreation staff as soon as possible to discuss and build
those improvements in time for Spring Training.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the County of Hawaii is
directed to transmit copies of this Resolution to Mr. Toru Shoriki,
owner of the Tokyo Giants; Mayor Herbert Matayoshi and Dr. Alan
Pratt, Chairman, Japan/Asia/Australia Tourist and Trade Development
Committee.
